Members,
The Greater Tyler Association of REALTORS® (GTAR) wishes to clarify its position regarding the current City of Tyler mayoral election and recent campaign materials circulated by one of the candidates.
GTAR, through its Government Affairs Committee and Board of Directors, did not endorse any candidate during the general election and has not endorsed any candidate in the current runoff election. No endorsement has been issued by the Association, its Board of Directors, its Government Affairs Committee, or its staff.
In fact; GTAR's official position is neutrality. While GTAR and TREPAC has endorsed numerous candidates in this election cycle for both state and municipal office; the official position at this time for the City of Tyler's Mayoral Election is to remain neutral.
GTAR’s policies are clear. Individual members, volunteer leaders, directors, committee members, and officers remain free to support and participate in political campaigns in their personal capacities. However, no individual may speak on behalf of the Association, imply the Association’s endorsement, or utilize their position within GTAR to suggest organizational support where none has been authorized.
Accordingly, any campaign materials, advertisements, statements, or communications that imply or suggest that the Greater Tyler Association of REALTORS®, REALTORS® as an organization, or GTAR leadership have endorsed a candidate are inaccurate unless such endorsement has been formally approved and publicly announced by the Association.
The REALTOR® trademark is owned by the National Association of REALTORS® and identifies members of the REALTOR® organization. It should not be used in a manner that misrepresents the position of the Association or creates confusion regarding official endorsements.
GTAR respectfully requests that all candidates and campaigns accurately represent the Association’s position and refrain from any communication that could reasonably be interpreted as an endorsement by the Greater Tyler Association of REALTORS® when no such endorsement exists.
Our Association remains committed to fostering informed civic engagement, advocating for private property rights, and maintaining productive relationships with elected officials regardless of political affiliation or electoral outcome.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued professionalism in representing the REALTOR® organization.
Sincerely,
Cody G. Jones
Chief Executive Officer
Greater Tyler Association of REALTORS®
