Mendo Training Center has been a huge part of my life for years now. There is so much I could say about this gym and the sport of jiu jitsu. It has helped shape the man I am today. I literally grew from a teenager to an adult in this gym. Made countless friends and still train with some of the guys I started with 11 years ago! If you’ve ever debated trying it out I encourage you to come train! First class is free!
Since 2011, I’ve been training in Jiu Jitsu at one of our local Ukiah's gyms. Growing up, I never was really into sports. In fact, I picked up Jiu Jitsu on a whim as a "senior project" in high school! But this is different than "sports" and I’ve become quite passionate about it!
It’s changed owners a few times over the last decade, but now, it’s called the Mendo Training Center and Nate Montano is the owner.
He has been practicing martial arts since 2004 so needless to say, he’s well versed in the practice. He also served for 6 years as a corpsman in the Navy (thank you for your service, Nate!) and eventually moved here in October of 2016. It wasn’t until 2019 that he took over the training center and has done a phenomenal job of running it.
One thing has always remained the same here: it's a place that people have been able to gather at to not only improve their physical endurance, but also to build relationships.
If you have any interest, swing by! Nate will take good care of you.
