♠️ Let’s talk BUSINESS….
Disclaimer: Before anyone jumps in my comments, this is purely opinion on the matter of Landscaping, but hey, if it applies to you, then so be it.
Today, I saw another landscaping company out on the route with their truck and trailer and their company name on the side of their truck and it got me thinking…
So I made a list. Of all the landscaping companies I know of in my area. And heres the results:
52%- Last Name Landscaping (or some form of personal name)
37%- Business name associated with our local geographical location. For example- NW PA, Erie, Lake Erie… certain town or location (just examples)
That leaves just 11% that actually have a unique business name. Now, I have been in sales, marketing and business for over 16 years and heres me input, take it or leave it.
1. Never name your business after your name or family name.
Why- it’s not sellable. Now before you come at me and say “I would never sell or be a sellout” I get it, neither will I. Life changes for some, things happen.
2. Never name your business after your immediate area.
Why- It limits your clients. Some clients may think you’ll only service your local area before you even get the lead or contact info. I’ll travel for work, and I have. If a client is willing to pay, it can be worth traveling.
Having a unique business name makes you stand out. Makes you memorable. My crews always have our brands shirts, hats, logos on etc so our clients and anyone driving by sees us and knows WHO WE ARE
Let’s have a discussion…
Just my thoughts.
Let me ask, what did you name your business and why?
I wish everyone great success in what you do!
