Our final 2025 Summer Intern's Testimony is Nathaniel Johnson:
"I first met SPK at Fairmont University’s annual Engineering Career Fair. Among the 50+ companies I talked to, SPK was one of the few that stood out among the crowd. They showcased an accelerated bridge design project that got a new bridge installed in one weekend, and one of their largest projects to date on PA Route 119. I was welcomed into the structure’s unit for the summer and was able to work in tandem with their senior engineers in designing, checking, and rehabbing bridges across PA and WV. Each project offered something unique to learn, whether it was a bridge type I hadn’t seen before or it was a design I had become familiar with. They let me take my time learning the in’s-and-out’s of each project before diving head first into the project. My time at SPK has been truly amazing; I cannot express how grateful for this opportunity I am. Thank you for having me!"

“My summer at SPK has been a great experience. Starting off as an intern felt intimidating, but within days I gained confidence thanks to helpful coworkers. Everyone was respectful, approachable, and always willing to help, which made it easy to ask questions and grow. I had the opportunity to improve my skills in AutoCAD and gain hands-on experience with real-world projects within the roadway unit. This experience has not only strengthened my technical abilities but also helped shape my goals for the future.”

"My name is Samantha Yuen and I have completed a summer internship with SPK. I had a great experience that was filled with great people. Everyone was super welcoming and open to answer any questions I had about different engineering topics or even talk about my plans for the next weekend. In addition to this, my scope on the different aspects of civil engineering was expanded. I was given work that interested me, yet still challenged my skillset. My mentor guided me through various H&H reports and E&S plans that I eventually became comfortable with completing myself. I cannot show enough appreciation for the support from my mentor, coworkers, and executives at SPK. I learned so much within the past three months, that makes this experience a memorable one.”
