Season One – Episode 7: The Return
A month passes.
Life moves.
Closings happen.
Keys exchange hands.
But this one was different.
One afternoon, without a call or a text, that small white bus rolls into my office parking lot again.
Still a little crooked.
I step outside.
Sunny steps down, smiling.
She walks in unannounced.
How she knows when I’m in the office and not out on showings or listing appointments, I’ll never know.
“Hey,” she says. “You busy?”
I shake my head. “Not for you.”
She grins. “Good. I want to show you something.”
A short drive later, we turn down that same narrow country lane.
This time, it feels different.
Not like a showing.
Like arriving.
Sunny pulls up to the house.
Her house.
She steps out and walks ahead of me, calm but certain.
“You ready?” she asks.
I nod.
We step inside.
And right away… I see it.
It’s not the same house.
It’s hers.
Soft touches. Sunflowers.
Warm colors.
A chair by the window.
Books stacked neatly along the wall nearby.
Lived in.
Loved.
“I told you I'd know when it was the right one," she says quietly.
I smile. “Yeah… you did.”
We move through the house, not touring, just browsing.
Then out back.
The porch.
The pasture.
The same white fence.
The horses.
Now, two rocking chairs.
We sit.
It all feels settled.
“I come out here every morning,” she says. “Coffee… sometimes tea if I forget it’s gotten hot again.”
I laugh.
“It’s quiet and peaceful,” she says. “The kind I was looking for.”
I nod.
After a moment, she turns to me. “Thank you.”
Simple.
Honest.
Enough.
“You found it,” I say. “I simply walked you down the path.”
She smiles.
We sit quietly until the sun begins to set.
As I head back toward my car, I take one last look.
The porch.
The pasture.
Sunny.
The home.
Some people search for square footage.
Some chase price.
Some just want a deal.
And then there are the ones looking for something they can’t quite explain.
But when they find it…
They know.
I reach for my door handle.
“Hey!” she calls out.
I turn.
She’s standing there, sunlight behind her.
“Want to go on a little adventure with me?”
I pause for a second.
Then I smile.
“Yeah… I’d like that.”
The next morning, we meet at Millie’s for lunch.
Same booth.
Same coffee.
Same sweet tea.
Millie passes by with a knowing smile.
“Where you two headed?”
Sunny glances at me, then back at her.
“On an adventure.”
Millie smiles, as she delivers two cups of chili at our table. "I suspected so."
A few minutes later, we step outside.
Sumny cranks the bus.
Still a little crooked, of course.
I climb in.
Sunny pulls out of the parking lot, tires kicking up small stones, as we pull onto the road.
No listings.
No schedule.
No destination.
Just… forward.
The End.
