Turns out the media spin and narrative “Mansion Tax” actually is imposed on ALL properties including Apartments and Commercial properties over a certain amount in Los Angeles whether or not you are making or losing money (like capital gains). As we have seen in the past once it’s imposed on higher value properties it will be applied to lower value properties over time until it’s imposed on everyone (like mortgage interest deductions and and 1034 home exchanges) This is setting a bad precedent for all real estate owners everywhere.
