Prince William County is reconsidering where future data centers should be allowed—and homeowners should be paying attention.

As of September 14, 2026, Prince William County is still considering a proposed zoning amendment that would reduce and redefine its Data Center Opportunity Zone Overlay District.

Under the proposal, new data centers outside the revised overlay in certain zoning districts would generally need to go through the Special Use Permit process.

Important: this is still a proposed amendment, not a final adopted rule.
