A young lady is preparing to buy her 1st house. In our consultation we talked about her timeline, her wishlist and her must-haves. As far as millennials go, sheโ€™s quite modest. ๐Ÿ™‚ She wants a condo in a decent neighborhood for her son.

I usually wait until the end of the conversation to ask if there are any savings reserved for the purchase. When I asked this young lady if she had any savings her response was, โ€œI ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—น๐˜† have $6,000โ€. ๐Ÿ˜”

For some reason she didnโ€™t think her efforts were โ€œgood enoughโ€. I stopped her before she went any further and intentionally celebrated that accomplishment. โ€œWow! Do you know how amazing it is to be able to save thousands of dollars in an economy so inflated it costs $150 just to go outsideโ‰๏ธ Pick your chin up. Youโ€™re closer than you realize.โ€ ๐Ÿ™‚

Her only challenge is that she hasnโ€™t established much credit so her scores are low. I took that as an opportunity to encourage and educate her more. I explained why โ€œ๐™‰๐™ค ๐™˜๐™ง๐™š๐™™๐™ž๐™ฉโ€ isnโ€™t the same as โ€œ๐™—๐™–๐™™ ๐™˜๐™ง๐™š๐™™๐™ž๐™ฉโ€. Itโ€™s easier for me to help you build positive trade lines than it is to play that credit repair game with the bureaus (which works but itโ€™s laborious).
