Yesterday was one of those days I’ll never forget.
As a mom, I couldn’t have been prouder.
At just 18 years old, Brayden closed on his very first property. Watching him sign those papers, I couldn’t help but think about all of the choices that led to this moment. The discipline to save his money. The willingness to delay gratification. The confidence to take a leap into something bigger than most people his age are even considering.
And then there’s the realtor in me.
I’ve spent more than 20 years helping people buy and sell real estate. Yesterday, sitting around the closing table with the attorney and loan officer (both of whom have decades of experience as well) we realized something pretty awesome. Brayden was the youngest buyer any of us had ever helped close on a property.
Real estate has long been one of the most powerful tools for building wealth, and to see him start that journey at 18 is super exciting. Not because he bought a property, but because of what it represents: hard work, sacrifice, patience, and a willingness to invest in his future.
In a world that encourages young people to spend money on the newest and flashiest things, Brayden is perfectly content driving the wheels off his 2008-ish Honda Accord. Is buying real estate at 18 as fun as buying a shiny new car? Probably not. Is it as flashy? Definitely not. But he understands that one of those purchases is much more likely to grow in value while he’s sleeping.
Congratulations, Brayden. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where your journey takes you.
