Pinch us! We left Progress Lakeshore's 2026 Annual Awards Breakfast with a Neighborhood Development award for our work at the McKinley Building in Valders. With all of the talent in the room, we were honored just to be in attendance. The dedication that so many people have for Manitowoc County is inspiring.

A huge THANK YOU to Jim and Christine Dvorak from The Village Bakery for all of their support and encouragement. Without their sweet treats and smiling faces, people from all over wouldn't be visiting the McKinley Building each day. We have the best tenants - both residential and commercial - in the building, and we're so excited for everything that's next!

With The Village Bakery open to the public, we're excited to share a few photos of the corner commercial space in the McKinley Building in Valders that Jake, me and the boys worked on over the fall and into winter. When we purchased the building in December of 2023, we asked people what they'd like to see in the building. They always answered with "a bakery!" When Jim, Christine and Kelly came to us with their idea for a local bakery, we could not have been more thrilled. So honored to help The Village Bakery bring their vision to life. Now, let's see what other businesses we can bring to Valders!

So much excitement outside The Village Bakery this morning as they cut the ribbon and opened the doors to their awaiting customers! It was so neat to see kids at the front of the line excited to congratulate their bus drivers on an entirely new business venture. Go check them out if you can! We enjoyed the glazed donuts. Oh. My. Word. I've never had a donut that crunched with crispy dough layers, and then melted in your mouth quite like that. AMAZING! The bread shelves are stocked and the display cases are full...for now!

The Village Bakery in the corner unit of the McKinley Building in Valders will be opening this Sunday! So excited for Jim, Christine and Kelly. They've been working around the clock for months to bring a new business to the village that everyone can enjoy. Make sure to check out this beautiful space, enjoy some great coffee, buy some breads and sweet treats, and wish the owners well in their new endeavor!
