Fun Fact Friday: Surveyors in Ancient Egypt

Did you know some of the first land surveyors worked in ancient Egypt? Every year, the Nile would flood, washing away property lines and leaving farmers scratching their heads. Enter the rope-stretchers, or harpedonaptae, Egypt’s original surveyors.

Armed with ropes, stakes, and patience, they re-measured fields, redrew boundaries, and kept everything in order. Without them, the pyramids might have been crooked, and neighbor disputes over camels… well, let’s just say history would’ve been messier.
