๐บ๐ธ 25 YEARS. NEVER FORGET. ๐บ๐ธ
September 11, 2001 โ a day that forever changed our country and shattered the hearts of New Yorkers.
Like the rest of the world, we watched in disbelief, trying to make sense of what was unfolding. But for those of us with New York in our hearts, it felt incredibly personal. The constant sirens, the firefighters and first responders running toward danger, the smoke filling a skyline we knew so well, and the desperate attempts to reach the people we loved.
I will never forget sitting in my classroom when an announcement came over the loudspeaker and my teacher turned on the TV. I remember my heart dropping. My aunt worked just down the street, and I frantically tried to call her, but the phone lines were down. Knowing my cousins were with the NYFD made the fear even more overwhelming.
Those moments are forever burned into my memory.
In the days that followed, New Yorkers came together in a way that is difficult to put into words. Strangers stood beside strangers. People held hands, cried together, prayed together and sang โGod Bless America.โ ๐บ๐ธ
We mourned brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, friends, coworkers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics and so many innocent lives. Firehouses were draped in mourning as brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice.
But in the middle of unimaginable devastation, we also witnessed incredible courage, unity, faith and love for one another.
Today, 25 years later, Iโm proudly wearing my red, white and blue. โค๏ธ๐ค๐
Thank you to every branch of our United States military and to our police officers, firefighters, paramedics, first responders and all those who have sacrificed to protect and serve this country.
My heart and prayers remain with every family who lost someone that day and with everyone who still carries those memories and that loss.
I will always remember exactly where I was when the world seemed to stop turning.
25 years later, we remember.
We honor.
We pray.
