Hi neighbors!
It may be a very wet start to November, but it’s still a great time to get on top of fall home maintenance—especially if October slipped by a little too fast!
Here are a few things to check off your list this week:
🍂 Clear gutters and downspouts of leaves and debris so melting snow or heavy rain can drain properly and avoid overflow or ice-dam formation.
🪜 Inspect the roof for loose or damaged shingles and remove any branches or debris that might trap moisture.
🪟 Seal up windows and doors by replacing worn weatherstripping, caulking gaps, and installing door sweeps to prevent drafts and heat loss.
💡 Check walkways, stairs, and exterior lighting to ensure handrails are secure, steps are even, and lighting works for shorter daylight hours.
🚿 Winterize outdoor systems — shut off and drain irrigation lines, disconnect hoses, cover exterior faucets, and store outdoor furniture.
🔥 Clean the dryer vent and hose to remove lint buildup and ensure safe operation during heavier winter use.
🏠 Inspect basements, crawlspaces, and lower levels for any signs of moisture or leaks before the rainy season worsens.
🔋 Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and replace batteries (the end of daylight saving time is the perfect reminder).
☢️ Consider testing for radon if you haven’t yet — frequent rain and winter pressure changes can increase indoor radon levels.
❄️ Schedule a heating system tune-up (furnace, boiler, or heat pump) and replace filters for safe and efficient operation.
By tackling these tasks now, you’ll help prevent costly surprises later and keep your home comfortable and safe all season long.
If you ever have questions about home maintenance or need guidance on what to look for, feel free to reach out — we’re always happy to help!
