“Hobby Spotlight”
This is Lynda, our very talented resident.
Our community director met with Lynda to learn more about her beautiful artwork.
This is what Lynda wanted to share.
I was living in New Mexico when my husband retired and we moved to Vancouver in 2005. My husband gave me all my time for my art by doing everything for me and supporting my art. He helped hang art shows, took me to art classes and to art shows every month at OSA in Portland.
I received a BFA degree in Studio Art from Southwest Texas State University in 1988 and a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1999.
Since the death of my husband in 2017, it has been difficult for me to be as active in the art community without his support and help. But, art has been my therapy and my life.
This is my second year establishing a website to sell prints of my art work and recently I have added my original paintings.

The website company in Austin,Texas has an AI program that gives suggestions, critiques, answers questions about websites and gives encouraging words. In these communications, I have to remind myself that it is not a real person I am talking to. In one communication, “Arty” made the statement that I broke the rules of watercolors. I was taken back but he said my watercolors had more the quality of oil paintings. I had not thought or analyzed my art but his observation made sense as my art degree was in oil painting. I took watercolor classes and fell in love with watercolors. Doing the Watercolors helped me obtain cleaner and more clear colors in oil paints not so much mud. All the hours of oil painting made watercolors come together with love and enjoyment not realizing at the time that my watercolors had oil painting qualities. That realization has made more sense of me loving realism and details. This year I have been enjoying my paintings more than ever. Art is my Life.
I am planning a series of the bird nest I see from my deck in the four seasons. The winter nest “small sanctuary “ is done and the photographs are made with the tree in bloom and now the nest is hard to find among the green leaves. I am looking forward to the nest covered in the colors of Autumn.
Lynda will be one of the artists at the Artists Talk at the Rose Show on June 20th. Oregon Society of Artists Gallery has changed their name to: Oregon Art Center Gallery.
