I want to say a huge thank you to this incredible woman, Teresa Handris! Every person in my life with whom I share decades of connection feels like a special gift from God—and Teresa is one of them.

We met in 2001, while building our first home in Vancouver. Back then, the Handris Realty Company office was on Main Street downtown. I never imagined I’d one day work for this company. But within a couple of years, one of the agents invited me to join her as a personal assistant—and Teresa supported that decision.

A young woman with minimal English and virtually no computer skills was hired. It was a risk for everyone… but I had amazing mentors, and we made it work!

We’ve lived through so much together—stories that could fill a novel. The year 2008 alone was unforgettable. One of my financing bosses (by then I had my own loan officer license) tragically took his own life, a few others passed away from cancer, and our offices felt more like therapy rooms than real estate spaces. It was a terrifying time in our business. But with God’s help, we made it through!

I also lost my position due to the crisis. But Teresa didn’t let me go. She said, “Yana, this is your home. Everyone here loves you. Where would you go?” And so I stayed at Handris, continuing my journey as an independent agent.

One detail that holds special meaning for me: our company was founded the same year I was born. So in a way, we’re birthday twins! I warmly congratulate all my colleagues on this anniversary—what a milestone!

Teresa has raised a worthy next generation to carry on the legacy—her grandchildren. The family business is thriving. May God bless you and Ed, and your entire big family.

Thank you, Teresa, for believing in me and giving me a chance. My love and gratitude will always be with you. ❤️
