There’s a lot of talk about younger generations being locked out of homeownership, but the numbers tell a more complete story.

📊 Current Homeownership Rates
• Gen Z: 27.2%
• Millennials: 55.4%
• Gen X: 72.7%
• Baby Boomers: 79.9%

📊 Homeownership By Age 27
• Baby Boomers: ~40%
• Gen X: ~30%
• Millennials: ~33%
• Gen Z: ~33%

What does this tell us?

The American Dream isn’t dead—it has simply changed.

Baby Boomers entered a housing market with lower home prices relative to income, less competition, and a different economic landscape. Today’s buyers face higher prices, higher interest rates, and stricter lending requirements.

Yet despite those challenges, about 1 in 3 Millennials and Gen Z adults owned a home by age 27, proving that homeownership is still achievable with the right strategy and planning.

Whether you’re buying your first home, your next home, or just trying to understand the market, knowledge is power. The path may look different than it did for previous generations, but the opportunity is still there.
