📚 Back-to-School Update for Sarasota County Families! 🍎

The 2026–2027 school year is right around the corner, and Sarasota County Schools has finalized updated start times for campuses across the district.

Beginning August 10, 2026, schools will follow three main start-time windows: 🏫 High Schools: 7:30 AM
📖 Elementary & K-8 Schools: 8:30 AM
🎒 Middle Schools: 9:30 AM

While many schools will remain close to their current schedules, some campuses will have small adjustments. Families are encouraged to check their child’s specific school schedule and begin planning for transportation, childcare, and after-school activities.

As a longtime Venice resident, I know how important our schools are to our community. Great schools are one of the many reasons families choose to call Sarasota County home. 💙

🏡 BIG potential change for Florida homeowners!

If you own a home in Florida—or you’ve been thinking about buying one—this is something you’ll want to know about.
The Florida Legislature has approved a proposed constitutional amendment that could significantly reduce property taxes for homeowners with a homestead exemption.

If Florida voters approve it on November 3, 2026, the homestead exemption would increase:

➡️ 2027: From $50,000 to $150,000
➡️ 2028: From $150,000 to $250,000
➡️ Then adjusted for inflation going forward

There’s also a provision that would create a path toward eventually eliminating non-school property taxes on homesteaded properties.⚠️ A couple of important things to know:
• This is not law yet—Florida voters still have to approve it with at least 60% of the vote.
• The exemption applies to non-school property taxes; school board taxes are not included.
• New Florida residents after January 1, 2027, would face a five-year residency requirement before receiving the full enhanced exemption.
For those of us who live here, this could be a BIG deal. And if you've been considering buying a home in Florida, it's certainly worth understanding how homestead benefits could factor into the long-term cost of homeownership.

It's hard to believe, but students across Sarasota County will be heading back to the classroom in just a couple of weeks!
Before you finish your shopping, don't forget that Florida's Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday runs through August 20, so you can save on many qualifying school supplies, clothing, backpacks, computers, and more.

We're also incredibly fortunate to live in a community with one of Florida's top-performing school districts. Sarasota County Schools has once again earned an "A" rating, marking 23 consecutive years as an A-rated district—a testament to our outstanding teachers, students, staff, and families.

Whether you're sending a child or grandchild back to school, let's all help keep our neighborhoods safe by slowing down in school zones and watching for buses and children crossing the streets.
