At 7 years of age, Purlin Co's Director of Operations, Steve Kay ("Stevie K"), knew that he wanted to be a rock star when he got the album Destroyer by Kiss. He practiced drums religiously in his basement, and by 16, he was playing clubs in New York, where he had grown up. After college, Steve played in several different bands and spent over 3 years drumming with a Billy Joel tribute band while working on Wall Street. But turns out he needed to follow his own drum beat. Steve was born to run.
Steve left New York and drove to Los Angeles to pursue his dream. He joined The Clints and played gigs at the Viper Room. Tower Records sold their CDs. The band's co-manager was the original manager of Kiss, and so Steve finally met his childhood idol, Kiss’s drummer Peter Criss, the very reason Steve became a drummer in the first place. His childhood fantasy was fulfilled.
Steve has always been known as the “heartbeat” in his bands and throughout his business career. He kept the beat going as EVP of Operations for one of the most successful talent management companies in the world, representing such artists as Michael Jackson, the Backstreet Boys, Korn, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Martin Lawrence. He did the same as Director for several mortgage lenders as well. Now, Steve keeps the beat for Purlin, running operations (the rhythm section). And he continues to play gigs in a band. He followed his dream and realized who he was. Turns out Steve was born to run things too - while never missing a beat!
