Good to know from the National Association of Realtors (NAR)
NAR is advocating the following changes to be made:

SALT TAX. (State And Local Taxes) Since 2017, the deduction for all these, including mortgage interest, has been $10,000 per filing. This particularly affects the larger population states of California, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. During the campaign, President Trump agreed to negotiate a higher number. In addition, although most tax deductions are per person, the SALT tax the deduction is limited to $10,000 both per individual and per couple. NAR is working to raise the limit, particularly for couples.

TAX ON SALE OF A HOME. In 1998, the tax changed from a carry-forward basis to a tax on the profit on an individual home. A deduction of $250,000 per person or $500,000 per couple is allowed, but anything over that amount is taxed at long term rates, currently 15%. Due to the massive increase in home prices since 1998, some are reluctant to sell and pay a tax consequence. NAR is suggesting the individual deduction be changed to $500,000 and the deduction for couples be changed to $1 million, and those limits indexed for inflation going forward.
