Long term benefits of homeownership vs. renting. This is a question that often comes up when I meet with first time homebuyers or those considering purchasing a home...."is it better to just rent or should I try to buy a home"? This is not an easily answered question and many variables must be considered such as local market conditions, rent availability and prices and personal situation and plans. However, a study like this does help frame the analysis in terms of dollars over time. This study shows a substantial financial advantage in home ownership vs. renting.

A 10-year rent-vs.-buy analysis found projected homeowner equity topped renter investment returns in five Florida markets, led by Miami.

Home prices declined in 2025 in Florida to the rate of 2.7%. Florida is one of only 9 states that experienced in a decline in home prices in 2025 with 41 states posting gains.

Fourth-quarter FHFA data show home values increased year over year, with 41 states posting gains, though growth varied and was softer in parts of Florida.
