No satire this time.

For years, I’ve believed smaller REALTOR® associations would eventually have to consider merging with larger organizations.

Now Miami REALTORS® and RWorld have merged—and Martin County REALTORS® of the Treasure Coast has joined them.

The merger conversation is no longer happening somewhere else. It has reached our doorstep.

I’m not arguing that the REALTORS® Association of Indian River County must merge. I’m arguing that its members deserve an open and honest examination of whether remaining independent—or pursuing a merger, chapter arrangement or shared-services agreement—provides them with the greatest value.

Independence is a means. Serving members is the mission.

I’d be interested to hear what local agents and brokers think.

Every organization tells you what it values

Some celebrate innovation.
Some celebrate member success.
Some celebrate leaders who help others grow.

Is the 1,000-member REALTOR® association becoming the horse and buggy of our industry?

That's the question I've been thinking about ever since Martin County REALTORS® voted to merge with MIAMI REALTORS®.

After more than 40 years in real estate, I've learned one lesson that keeps repeating itself:

Industries consolidate when the economics demand it.

I believe REALTOR® associations are no exception.
