Sixty-nine percent of Millennials say they can’t retire or buy a house without an inheritance.

And when you look at the data… you get why.

The average age of a first-time homebuyer just jumped to 40.
Not because people are lazy.
Not because they’re bad with money.
But because the math has changed.

And for a lot of Millennials, the only path forward seems to be the coming $90T Great Wealth Transfer from their boomer parents.

Northwestern Mutual found that nearly seven out of ten Millennials who expect to receive an inheritance say it’s “critical” to their financial future.
Not helpful.
Not nice to have.
Critical.

Why?

Because more than half say they can only afford to either buy a home or save for retirement — but not both.

Meanwhile, boomers are sitting on an estimated $18T to $19T in real estate alone.

But here’s the plot twist…

Only 26% of Millennials say they actually expect to receive an inheritance.
That number is dropping every year.

And nearly half of boomers say they want to enjoy their money while they’re alive — not pass it on.
Another 39% don’t even have a will.

So you’ve got an entire generation hoping for money
that may not be coming
from people who might not plan to leave it
and a tax code ready to shave off a chunk of whatever is left.

It’s a financial pressure cooker.

As someone who didn’t inherit anything — I had to join the Army National Guard just to afford school — I never built my financial life around the hope of someone else’s money.

Hope is not a plan.

Build skills.
Build income.
Build assets.
Build a life that doesn’t depend on someone dying for you to move forward.

An inheritance should be a blessing.

Not the only exit.
