Summary: The electronics technician conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, and components of Perimeter Security Systems. The position applies knowledge of electrical/electronics and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation.
Essential Functions:
-Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, and electrical/electronic equipment, including programmable controls, capacitors, power supplies, switching, relay inputs/outputs, etc.
-Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
-Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
-Advises and trains facility maintenance personnel of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
-Informs appropriate management of potential electrical/mechanical problems and if any inherent dangers involved.
-Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for site inspections.
-Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
-Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently performing work within a secured perimeter of a correctional facility. Interaction with inmates in minimal and security officers perform escorting duties.Physical Demands The physical demands require the employee to work within a mile secured perimeter. This includes hauling tools, equipment and material to various points along the perimeter to fix various components of the physical fence structure or electrical components.
Travel Travel is expected for this position within the United States and occasionally internationally.
Required Education and Experience:
-Two-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program or the equivalent in a technical field.
-Three to five years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields.
-Three years’ computer experience/operation
Preferred Education and Experience:
A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment, including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
