Watching for a Possible First Alert Weather Day ❄️

There is enough forecast guidance to suggest a real possibility of winter weather impacts in Alabama late Saturday night into early Sunday.

Some guidance supports accumulation potential in south Alabama, with a lower-end chance reaching into our southern counties. I want to stress we are still in the possibility stage, with two main scenarios on the table.

Scenario 1:
Moisture stays farther south, with only a narrow window of precipitation impacting far southeast Alabama and southern Georgia.

Scenario 2:
A broader southwest-to-northeast band of snow develops Saturday night, moves across the state, and exits early Sunday, with accumulation similar to what’s shown in some higher-end guidance below.

I know these wintry risks often brings model noise and confusion, but from a basic meteorological standpoint, several important ingredients are in place:

•A favorable upper-level trough
•Plenty of cold air
•The potential for a Gulf disturbance along a front

Those factors always warrant close monitoring in winter weather setups, regardless of deterministic models, ensembles, or any other guidance tools.

Today will be an important day in narrowing which scenario is more likely. We’re only a few days out, and our team is working to provide real answers as confidence improves.
