Memorial Day Weekend. Not BBQ, a day off, or a day at the lake or pool. Memorial Day is about those who didn’t make it home. Take a moment out of your celebrations today and remeber that freedom isn’t free. Men and women of this great country are the price.

There’s a growing scam targeting real estate agents and buyers using fake Zoom meetings and malicious links. The scam usually works like this:

1. A “buyer” or “seller” contacts an agent about a property.
2. They insist on meeting over Zoom.
3. Instead of using a normal Zoom invite, they send a fake link.
4. Clicking the link may:
* install malware,
* steal passwords,
* request a fake “Zoom update,”
* or capture financial/client information. 

Real estate associations across multiple states have issued warnings about this exact pattern. 

Common red flags include:

* The person refuses phone calls.
* They claim to be “traveling” or “out of state.”
* They pressure you into a Zoom meeting quickly.
* They insist on sending their Zoom link instead of joining yours.
* The link asks you to install software or update Zoom unexpectedly. 

Some newer versions reportedly involve:

* remote-control requests during meetings,
* credential theft,
* deepfake identity fraud,
* and even wire-fraud attempts tied to closings. 

How to protect yourself:

* Only use official Zoom links from Zoom
* Create the meeting yourself instead of clicking theirs.
* Never install “Zoom updates” from a meeting prompt.
* Verify buyers/sellers through phone or known contacts.
* Use MFA on email and banking accounts.
* Don’t share wiring instructions solely by email or video call.

If you already clicked a suspicious link:

* Disconnect from the internet immediately.
* Run antivirus/malware scans.
* Change passwords from a clean device.
* Notify your brokerage/IT team.
* Monitor bank and email accounts for suspicious activity

Our Vicksburg-Warren County Board of REALTORS helped by collecting just shy of 190 lbs of food. Which goes in our Vicksburg pantries! Thanks to everyone that came out in support of this food drive to STAMP OUT HUNGER!

Vicksburg Warren students turn a district-wide food drive into an 8,200-pound haul, filling two buses with donations in memory of Kimmy Melton.
