“This is highly suspicious for cancer”,
I remember hearing that statement over 2 decades ago. The years since have been the best years of my life. I have had mountaintops and valleys, yet the lessons that have been learned have been priceless. My walk after diagnosis, have led me to cross paths with some AMAZING women. We have all shared the same breast cancer journey, yet we all had to walk in our own shoes. Some have passed, and others are still here to share their stories. My aunt Mickey, my dearly departed Felecia Parker (beautiful queen, SIP), Alicia A Guinn, Anissa D Christopher, my across the street neighbor, friends of friends and breast buddies have become my inspirations. They have contributed to the woman I am today.
As breast cancer awareness slowly comes to a close, I am reminded that some of us still haven’t gotten those mammograms. Ananda Lewis, a huge personality from the 90s, just announced that she has stage 4 breast cancer that has spread. Reading her story took me back to 2002 LaBrenda Haynes. Had it not have been for my advocates, LaBrenda Haynes (happy birthday Auntie!), and one heck of an oncologist Nicholas Koutrelakos, I likely wouldn’t have been here today.
God’s grace and mercy saved me in order to pass along my experiences to others. We walk through this life with uncertainties, but if you help someone as you pass through, “your living is not in vain”
