Betty and Michelle’s house in Chesapeake had become too small over the years and they were looking for a brand-new home, with a nice outdoor space, in a neighborhood that could accommodate multi-generation living, while keeping the closeness they so enjoyed. We searched several new home communities and they eventually fell in love with this home in Chesapeake! We worked it out that their home sold quickly and then worked together from construction through to completion - all while having fun in the process. Domenic & Payton are the sweetest couple and our journey began over 9 months ago when they found out they were relocating to our area from PA. We spent 2 days touring new construction and resale homes and they ultimately found a community that checked all the boxes – a new construction home in Suffolk! A large, modern home, with plenty of custom features within close proximity to all the creature comforts they were used to having in PA. Ethan and Carly wanted a larger, more updated home and after searching many neighborhoods in our area, they chose an almost brand-new house tucked away from the hustle and bustle in Chesapeake, with a large backyard, too. The only updates are those that they want to add to personalize the space and best of all we negotiated some closing cost assistance too. On the flip side, there home was listed, under contract within 3 days, and closed quickly, too. I am so happy that I got to help Ethan and Carly sell their home and find their new Happy Place! Sarah & Nick are new to our area and were looking for a home with great outdoor space, room for visiting family and friends, a neighborhood for walking their dog, and no more than 30-min commute times to work. They also loved the idea of a home with history. We checked all the boxes with this one of a kind 1950s home in Portsmouth with over 3,000 sf of living space and overlooking the lake. 55 years ago today, George Dragas hung the Dragas Mortgage Company shingle to help local families experience the pride of homeownership. Seeing people achieve the American dream led naturally to a partnership with his brother Mark to build homes in Hampton Roads. Under a new name, The Dragas Companies broke ground on the company’s first community in 1978.

It was the beginning of a commitment not to simply build homes, but to build neighborhoods of enduring beauty and sustainable value. It was the start of a legacy of serving Hampton Roads with integrity and excellence. And it was the genesis of many good deeds to help elevate the less fortunate in our region.

Through teamwork between our staff and trade partners, the company thrived and grew through the ups and downs of many economic cycles. Over the past 55 years, we’ve created more than 60 communities that have welcomed over 8,000 families home.
