If you ever get a chance to go to la plaza Olvera in Los Angeles, Don’t forget to visit the oldest grape vine in California within the Avila adobe, This vine is believed to be the descendant of the ‘’Viña Madre’’ grape variety first cultivated at the San Gabriel Mission. The Avila Adobe was built in 1818 and the vine is thought to have been planted around the same time to provide shade for the courtyard, before the Urbanization of Los Angeles, Olvera street was surrounded by grape vineyards, LA was known as California’s original wine country. The vine in the picture is a reminisce of California’s Rancho era.

Today I feel indifferent about celebrating independence day aka USA’s 🇺🇸 birthday, with everything going on in this country it’s hard to ignore all the social injustices happening at this moment, born and grown in the U.S this day has always had a special place in my heart but this year it just feels a little different. Myself being of Mexican🇲🇽roots, My father’s family from Jalisco and my mother’s family from Baja California with Californio roots, I have always been proud of being Mexican American, my love has always been equally divided between two cultures and two country’s one for raising me and the other for giving me my origins. Researching my genealogy and going on a journey to find out more about my family’s origins, I found out that on my mothers side we have ties to California since it’s earliest beginnings my ancestors were leather jacket soldiers sent to Las Californias Alta/Baja to protect the missions, who married native Californian woman especially from the Yumano people Kumeyaay, pai pai, Kiliwa tribes 🪶 who’ offspring married Irish and English sailors who docked on Californian beaches and deserted, also mixed in our gene pool are a few American frontiersmen. Lately I’ve been educating myself on Californio history the problem has never been California switching from Mexican to American hands, It was the violation of the treaty of hidalgo, the broken promises, The laws created and passed to make the original inhabitants into second class citizens, legally taking away their lands and ostracizing their culture and language. Fast forwarding to 2025 I feel like it’s the same story repeating it’s self violating peoples rights for self gain, I can’t celebrate this country with an oppressive regime at the oval office. This isn’t about being conservative or liberal it’s about evil vs good, How can i enjoy a beer and fireworks when families are being torn, hard working people are being sent to detention camps, are economy is intentionally being sunk for the benefit of the rich. I am writing this post not because I’m of Hispanic origin, I’m writing this because I am human, At the end of the day its about humanity 🌎

If you want to combat The Cartels and the Drug epidemic that affects the U.S on a daily basis, It’s simple hit the cartel’s where it hurts financially! stop consuming their product invest in Rehabilitation programs, in mental health services, create a better culture and work towards having better family dynamics give harsher punishment to local drug dealers and consumers, it’s business 101 Less narcotic consumers, less drugs into the country, The drug business is like any other business it needs clients to survive, also their operations and logistics overhead are high, If the the U.S can decrease drug addiction 25% to 50% Cartels would think twice about trafficking into the U.S the numbers and the risk wont make sense.
