As I was taking a walk around my neighborhood, I was called over by an elderly woman, Rebecca. She asked if I could sit down and visit for a few minutes as she was waiting for a ride to a PACE center for lunch. Knowing she has Alzheimer’s, I sat with her and we talked about the lovely tree across the street. She said it was so tall now because she took buckets of water to help it grow. While she can’t remember how many children she had, she did remember a large family. As the PACE ride came, the driver said he remembered his grandma when he was a little boy. Used to give him bologna sandwiches after school. He said he could probably make more money doing something else, but helping elderly folks was a blessing. I let him know that what he was doing was so needed and helpful. What I do know is that I am blessed when I take a few minutes to visit with people, no matter their various situations. Knowing that people care calms the spirit and gives a moment of peace in this life.
