Lockhart might be the holy land of BBQ, but Seguin is the Vatican City. We made a trip to see the Pope of BBQ and Super Dave today and nothing was getting in our way. Through heavy rains and street flooding we braved the line and enjoyed the Michelin Star restaurant The Burnt Bean Co. Ernest Servantes and Dave Kirkland are # 1 on the Texas Monthly BBQ top 50 and with good reason. I have been here before and it was the best I’ve had and I’ve had a lot of BBQ around Texas. Today I had brisket, a smoked bone in pork chop and El Cinco( poblano and pepper jack) sausage. The brisket is still the best I’ve had. The sausage was amazing and man that pork chop was divine. Very tender and juicy. Our sides were the poblano cheesy squash, Hot Cheeto Mac and cheese and Cowboy beans. The squash is my favorite side and was better this time than last. The Cowboy beans were on point and the Mac and cheese was nice and creamy. I of course had a Big Red and a free Yuengling beer. I finished it all off with one of the best desserts you can get. The peach bourbon cobbler taco. It comes with cinnamon ice cream and a pie dough taco shell. If you want some of the best BBQ in Texas ( the world) then you need to get in line early. They open at 11.

On a food adventure this week and stopped in Austin to try a Michelin Star restaurant. Interstellar BBQ. Had Brisket, beef kielbasa, Polish 1963 sausage, and a beef short rib with chimmichurri sauce. Kendra had the tipsy turkey sandwich. My buddy Calvin and his wife Cori came along and added a few things including the Peach Tea pork belly burnt ends. For our sides we had smoked scalloped potatoes, jalapeño Cole slaw, and Gouda Mac and Cheese. The brisket was really good. Nice bark and tender. Both of the sausages had great flavor. I preferred the Polish. The beef short rib was rich and perfect. The pork belly burnt ends were really great. The turkey was moist and had good flavor. Of the sides the potatoes, made with Gouda also were creamy and smokey. The Mac and cheese was good and cheesy. The slaw was some of the best I’ve had. Overall it was a great experience. The line moved about like expected and took about an hour to get in the door. We arrived at 11 when they opened and were about 100 back. I will definitely go again. Come and Eat It!

Went to the Oscar Store to celebrate a good friend’s birthday today. This is my first time there and it did not disappoint. I had the Thomas Burger. Man what a great burger. Fresh ground beef and very flavorful. Had some fried pickles and fried mushrooms. They were crisp and really tasty. It’s a short drive outside of Temple, Tx. Come and Eat It! It’s worth the drive.

Took a trip with friends to Harker Heights today. Had to try out Rossler’s Blue Cord BBQ. Had the 4 meat platter with brisket, ribs, turkey and beef sausage. My sides were Elotes pasta and smoked greens. The brisket was great, nice bark and seasoned right. The rib was really good. Just the right amount of smoke. The turkey was juicy and flavorful. I enjoyed both the sides. The best thing I had was the pork belly burnt end that my buddy Calvin got. One of the best I’ve had. The are there on Wednesday and Thursday. Come and Eat It. It’s good.

On my way home Friday l had time to try a place I had heard good things about. 1775 BBQ in College Station. This was a great stop. I had some of the best brisket, ribs and sausage I’ve had. I got beans and potato salad for my sides. I couldn’t pass up the apple cobbler for dessert. Hats off to Brad and Brandon Doan. They have something great here. The brisket was close to perfect as well as the ribs and sausage. The beans were made with brisket and tasted like they should. The potato salad was made with red skin potatoes and was a good side for the meat. Definitely Come and Eat It.

Made a trip this week and stopped at C&J BBQ on Monday. I went to the original location on Harvey Road. I ordered the three meat plate and added turkey. I had brisket, ribs and sausage. The two sides I chose were the green chile mac and cheese and the smoked greens. Got the jalapeño cornbread and banana pudding. Everything was good. I especially enjoyed the ribs and turkey. The brisket had a good smokey flavor, but seemed a bit over cooked. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was good. I enjoyed both the sides. The Mac and cheese was real good. I would for sure eat here again. Made a trip to Cameron today to get some BBQ from Hecho en Texas. We have been hearing good things about them and had to try it out. We had the “My Wife Ain’t that Hungry” plate with Brisket, Ribs, Sausage and Turkey. We tried the potato salad, beans, Mac and cheese and slaw. Everything was good. The things that stood out were the Ribs and the turkey. They were almost perfect. The brisket was good and won’t disappoint at all. I had the jalapeño cheddar sausage and it had just a bit too much cheese in it. The plain sausage was good. Of the sides for me the slaw was good. It had a vinegar based dressing and was sweet. The beans were real good and had a little brisket in them. The Mac and cheese was creamy and had a slight smoky flavor. I was not a fan of the potato salad ( I think it had sweet relish in it) but it wasn’t horrible. I definitely would make the trip again. Come and Eat It.

Went to Union Grove last night had Chefito’s. I highly recommend you go eat here. I had the Cuban Fritta burger with fries. Very good, juicy burger with frittas, grilled onions and cheese. The fries were seasoned and crispy. Overall very good. I have eaten here a few times and the portions are big and the flavors are great. They also have a food truck. Come and Eat It!

Went to Revival Eastside Eatery. Not my first time here but wanted to revisit. Had the Golden Calf with sweet potato fries. Check out the menu. Really good burger and the fries were crispy and dipped in the lemon garlic aioli sauce tasted great. Come and Eat It!

Friday we went to Trinity Groves in Dallas. I tried Sum Dang Good. I had the General Tso’s chicken and fried rice. It is the best I’ve ever had. I then went to LaRue’s donuts. I had a Lemon Ricotta Bostock. ( forgot to get a pic of it before I ate it) It was great. Come and Eat It!
