You may have heard me recommend “Mount Zion Overlook”, located at “Mount Zion Park”, in Ironwood, as one of the best places to watch the sunset, and to see Copper Peak ski jump and the Apostles Islands in the distance, and as a bonus, it’s the easiest overlook to access, it’s even ADA accessible!

Well, here is a shot from the web cam, to show it’s even beautiful in the morning!

Office guy just had to put this up, a Mt. Zion snapshot from a couple of minutes ago! See how fast the colors are changing? Compare it with the last Mt. Zion pic I put up a couple of days ago, also at 7am. Looks like some folks are up early, taking it all in!

The western UP is just starting to turn, peak is still coming over here!

Peak Color has Arrived in the UP. (current satellite image). Areas in the very western UP on the Wisconsin border have now reached 80% to peak color. The next couple days should be full peak. Expect leaf loss by this time next week in this area. Extreme drought conditions in this area have lead to dry conditions which have allowed for some beautiful bright colors to appear as cold weather arrived over the last couple weeks. Reading the guestbook at the cottage is something I love to do when I stop by for repairs/updates/etc… reading online reviews is equally enjoyable, and something I can do in real time. 🥰

This review hit me in the feelers! I reinvest into the property with a goal to make improvements each year and some changes along the way, based on guest feedback.

The below review gives me motivation to keep moving forward with the cottage (it can be a challenge to ensure the snow and yard are properly managed, and the few guests damages haven’t been terrible, but they do cost $$$ to repair 😬). I am not an investor, I am a single person and this is the only property I own, so I weigh my choices carefully….

Hopefully the cottage continues to have amazing guests year-round, who enjoy the home as our summer guests have!

“What a lovely property in a great location! It was the perfect size for our group of 4 adults, a teen and a tween.

This is an older home with a bit of “charm” however, it is obvious that the host is making updates and improvements to the home. It is very clean and well stocked.

The new deck is a lovely spot to relax with morning coffee. The kitchen was clean, organized and well stocked.

We easily found everything we needed to cook our breakfasts and dinners (we were out during lunch). Extra blankets were readily available, too.

Our favorite spot was the fire pit area! What a fun place to hang out! A big thank you to the hosts for making sure we knew to check the fire rating for the area before building a fire. (This isn’t a concern where we live and may not have thought of it ourselves.) Unfortunately there was a ban in place during part of our stay but it was lifted after a brief storm so we were able to enjoy a fire on our last evening.

We appreciated the [stair railing] up to this area… such a small thing but really helpful for those with mobility issues.

The host was very helpful and provided suggestions of places we might like to visit, plus grocery store and restaurants, too. The page is fun to check out.

I saw a family of deer (see pics) walk right across the driveway as I was heading out one morning and they decided to hang out on the front lawn. How fun!

We had a very pleasant stay and would definitely book again if we decide to visit the area in the future.”

Looking for a waterfall to walk behind (walk behind waterfall), O-kun-de-kun is your place then!

(Always be careful when exploring around waterfalls, calm water can be STRONG and beneath the falls can have dangerous under currents and eddies.)

This is a great waterfall to see! And, a great place for fish fry is on the way to Saxon Harbor… Saxon Harbor is also a fabulous place to kayak out of, you can even go up to Superior Falls and back in a couple of hours!
The boat launch is awesome, there, too!

A little info about it from Travel Wisconsin website: https://www.travelwisconsin.com/outdoors/waterfalls/saxon-falls

*Located on the Wisconsin/Michigan border, Saxon Falls total cascade is 90 feet on the Montreal River. Only in the spring as the snow melts or after a particularly heavy summer rainfall will all three of the lower falls be running fully. The gorge below the falls is one of the deepest in the midwest.

Directions from Hurley : Travel 12.5 miles west on U.S. 2. Turn right on Hwy 122 north, traveling for approx. 2.1 miles. At County B turn right and follow 1.5 miles, then take a left at Saxon Falls Road (unpaved). Go 0.5 miles to the unpaved parking area. On foot, follow the short, wooded hiking trail to the east of the parking area, which leads to the overlook location.
