What started as a small business serving healthcare professionals has remained in the Weise family for more than six decades. Johnny Freeze Cream Ice is an Oklahoma-made-and-owned frozen treat that’s a little different from your typical snow cone or shaved ice. The concept began through concession businesses serving ballparks, where the unique cream ice quickly became a hit. The team behind Johnny Freeze eventually brought the product to Oklahoma, growing it into a local brand now served at venues, schools, ballparks, resorts, and other community spots across the state. Their signature treat has a smooth texture somewhere between ice cream and a snow cone, with 14 colorful flavors ranging from Tigers Blood and Blue Raspberry to Wedding Cake, Cotton Candy, Oklahoma Punch, and more. Today, Johnny Freeze says it has 50+ active partner locations and produces more than 10,000 units a week!! A pretty cool example of an Oklahoma business growing from a simple concession-stand favorite into something people around the state can enjoy.

OKC, let’s raise a glass to a local business that’s doing cider a little differently! This week, we’re shining a light on OK Cider Co. 🍎

OK Cider Co. began when co-founders Tim King and Luke Hadsall started experimenting with cider after Tim, a craft-beer lover, discovered he needed gluten-free options. When they couldn’t find a cider they really loved, they decided to make their own. Their experiments eventually led them to create their signature “beer-inspired” ciders, using techniques and yeast traditionally associated with beer. After getting an overwhelmingly positive response at the Oklahoma Craft Beer Festival, they officially launched OK Cider Co. in 2017 and opened Oklahoma City’s first cidery and taproom in Film Row in 2020. Today, they’re still creating creative, gluten-free ciders right here in OKC, offering locals something a little different from the usual brewery experience.
