I was trying to capture the flurry of activity at my two old “workhorse” birdhouses this morning. Of course, it stopped once I pulled out my camera. But just before, both birdhouses were absolutely boiling with blue feathers. The bluebirds are setting up housekeeping for the long, cold winter ahead. Don’t forget to give them a place to live and plenty of food and water for the long months ahead.

So many customers ask if my birdhouses are really meant to go outside, how long they will last, and what kinds of birds they attract. As you can see in the photo, this one is currently housing a bluebird family. I'm happy to say the eggs hatched and the angry papa is keeping busy feeding them, rather than throwing himself at our windows all day, every day. This particular birdhouse has been in this spot for almost 6 years, and as you can see, the box and roof are still in great shape. As you would expect, the decoration will fade over time if the birdhouse isn't cleaned yearly and given a new coat of polyurethane. This birdhouse has sheltered bluebirds, chickadees, and some other small, cavity-nesting bird I couldn't get a good look at.

Hello all! For those of you looking for me on Etsy, I've had to put the shop on hiatus for awhile as I finally attend to my rotator cuff tears. I can't tell you for sure when I will be back at it, but keep checking in with me for updates. In the meantime, I will be "enjoying" watching this angry bluebird daddy throwing himself at our windows from sunup to sundown every day ;)
