TIPS TO ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS THIS SUMMER
SELECT PLANTS THAT REPEL MOSQUITOS
Prepare for the great outdoors this summer. For many years, I planted most of these plants both in the ground and in pots on the porch and patio. They not only serve as a repellant but the herbs can be used in cooking or as a garnish. And the flowers add a lot of bright colors to your landscaping.

KEEP MOSQUITOES OUT OF YOUR YARD
Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water. Tips to cut the mosquito population in your yard:
- Remove items that collect rainwater that you don’t need, like old tires.
- Empty items that catch rainwater after a storm.
- Change the water in fountains and bird baths at least once a week.
- Clean the gutters on the roof to keep water flowing.
INSTALL A PORCH CEILING FAN (OR USE A FLOOR FAN)
Since mosquitoes are so light and naturally weak fliers the force of air from the fan keeps them away. Another reason for the fan’s effectiveness is the fact that it disperses carbon dioxide and other chemical cues and odors that mosquitoes use to locate hosts (YOU) for feeding.
