We absolutely need to build more homes. Full stop. But this NYT piece makes a point worth hearing: more supply alone doesn't help if young buyers still can't come up with a down payment. The proposed "House by 30" program tackles both sides of the problem, and that's the kind of thinking the housing market needs right now. Whether you agree with every detail or not, the conversation is overdue. Worth a read.

The federal government can once again make building wealth for young families a core mission.
