Maryland has many first time housing programs available. It's always worth checking with Maryland's Dept of Housing and Comm Devel. Also, many local governments have programs for teachers, police officers and fire fighters. DC has specialized programs available to federal employees and police officers.

The Washington DC area has a wealth of programs available to help first-time home buyers purchase a home. In Virginia, check with the Virginia Housing Development Authority and its SPARC loans and HomeStride loans, which offers special deferred payment mortgages and other income sensitive programs. localities, such as Alexandria and Arlington Counties have special programs as well.
