The talented artisan ( a master electrician, but also a blacksmith, a welder, a stone mason, and stained glass worker.) James W. Conner, Jr. has passed away. A familiar sight on Capitol Hill, this tall, lanky, cowboy-hat-clad man worked on movies here in DC, many commercial buildings, and was available for consultation about residences as well. He was a Viet Nam veteran, and one of the nicest guys around. He will be missed.

Guys, you may already know about this, BUT if not, show and tell!

Some ideas on preppibng your home for when you become aged. Some are obvious, some not so much. A smart home can help, too. Programmable thermostats, timed lights, wi-fi appliances. all can make your life safer & easier. My car has a lot of safety features I love too. Nearby car warnings, back-up camera, lane assist, hands-free driving, GPS location and direcdtions, all of these make my driving safer. Hey, new tech is cool. I just saw a video about assisted bionic leg braces. hmmmmm.

Pros say these elements and strategies create a safe, comfortable home that adapts to life’s changes.

So, I'm having breakfast in one of my favorite dive bars, listening to the ebb and flow of talking and political analysis, and I hear the bartender state: "When I was a kid, I got my new glasses, and wore them for awhile, and then they got busted, but I couldn't afford a new pair, so I did without for a year or two. Then, more flush, I went to get a new prescription with another doctor. That doctor told me I didn't need a prescription, my eyes were fine. (???).
I told my family, and they all went to see the new doctor. 3 sisters, and another brother, all had glasses. THe new doctor said that they were all fine.
I think the first doctor found a great way to drum up business."
While others were chuckling about a violation of medical ethics right up there with Andrew Wakefield, I thoughtfully said, "You're lucky he wasn't an undertaker."
