My father came to this country from Panama and joined the US Army during the Vietnam War in pursuit of the American dream and the opportunity to build a better life for his future family.

Like many veterans, he rarely spoke about his time in the war. But even as children, my sisters and I understood the depth of his sacrifice, not only for our family, but for this country that he loved so deeply.

Today, I honor him and all those who served with courage, strength, and selflessness.
