We’re baaaack. To school😉. Phil & Jeanne love volunteering as Bike Marshals for Hill Family Biking’s monthly bike rides around Capitol Hill, helping kids (& their parents) feel confident about riding a bicycle here in the city. And this was one of HFB’s biggest rides yet, with the jam-packed post-ride bike parking area looking more like Amsterdam than DC!! A giant street mural outline by Lauren Bomba was chalked in while popsicles & watermelon were enjoyed by all. Thanks to all the folks who helped make this ride such a great success, including our friends at DCMPD who helped with rolling traffic control & the random bike repair. See you again next month! As temperatures rise, our Team Mascot Kona wants to share a quick reminder about keeping our four-legged family members safe this summer.
It’s easy to misunderstand how quickly heat affects dogs—especially when running quick errands or stopping by our open houses! 🚗☀️
Car Temperature Danger Zones:
🌡️ 75°F outside = 94°F in car after 10 mins | 109°F after 30 mins
🌡️ 85°F outside = 104°F in car after 10 mins | 119°F after 30 mins
🌡️ 95°F outside = 114°F in car after 10 mins | 129°F after 30 mins
Signs of Heat Stroke:
- Excessive drooling or panting
- Restlessness, anxiety, or vomiting
- Lethargy, weakness, or collapsing
What to do if your dog overheats:
1. Move them directly into the shade.
2. Wet their paw pads and body with cool (not freezing cold) water.
3. Offer small amounts of cool drinking water.
4. Call your vet immediately.

Why do we love our Capitol Hill neighborhood so much?? It’s all about the neighbors & community!! When someone realized yesterday that it was Jerome’s “big” birthday folks quickly gathered together for an impromptu celebration w/cake & ice cream, toasting this longtime resident who has single-handedly kept the block looking tidy for years.
