Happy Juneteenth & congrats to Eamoni Collier on today’s Grand Opening of Urban Garden Brewing, DC’s first Black woman-owned brewery. Located in the former Right Proper space at 624 T St NW, the beer is influenced by herbs, flowers, & teas. And we can attest to their delightful taste. Looking forward to enjoying this garden of delights on a regular basis.

Ahoy, mateys! Here’s a rare chance to check out the sailboats, er, 70-foot ocean racing yachts, participating in the endurance challenge “Clipper Round the World” ocean sailing race. Docked at The Wharf through Monday evening, these 10 teams made up of everyday people as crew are racing 8 legs across 5 oceans & 40,000 nautical miles, bringing together 600+ crew, with 300+ careers & 50+ nationalities. And 3 racing yachts (Washington DC; Scotland; & Seattle) have females as both Skipper & First Mate! Looks like lots of interesting things going on each day, & there will be fireworks on Monday night to celebrate the departure for the final leg of the race. Interesting international exchanges & events like this are why we love DC!

In other transpo news, Prancers were spotted demonstrating proper(?) usage of the new safety flags at Lincoln Park…

DC Bike Party rolled through downtown w/several hundred colorfully attired cyclists, this month celebrating Pride. Tunes were spun & pulled by multiple rolling DJs, while flashing lights & bubbles filled the air. This fun critical mass ride rolls out from Dupont Circle at 8pm on (usually) the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Costumes aren’t required, but helmets & bike lights are a great idea. Also tutus!!! Big thanks to all the DCBP volunteers who cork the streets to make it safe as we roll through!

Troubadour Will Kimbrough closed out the Roots Americana Spring concert series at The Hill Center this afternoon on a high note. Quicksilver Productions Foundation brings awesome free live music to our neighborhood & we are thrilled to co-sponsor these great shows along with DC Brau, Spoken with Authority, The Hill Rag, Sojourn, & The Hill Center. See you in September for the Fall concert series!

$300K given away tonight & not a tux or ball gown in sight😉!! We love our (very generous) Hill neighbors! The Capitol Hill Community Foundation’s “Great Grants Giveaway, Spring Edition” saw CHCF award 112 grants this cycle totaling $300,000 (all from neighbors’ donations!) to groups doing great work in our neighborhood. And this will happen again in the Fall. And again the following Spring. And so on. Neighbors helping neighbors helping neighbors. Jeanne serves on the CHCF Board, & as a member of the Grants Committee helps to review grant applications, getting to see firsthand the way grantees create solutions for needs in our community. Congrats to all the awardees & thank you to everyone for all your hard work

A fun new mural by J. D. Deardourff is going up on the Georgetown Waterfront at 3401 Water St NW. As yet unnamed, the artist says he’s mulling titles. We love the graphics of this flowing scull, a bight nod to the scullers & rowers along the Potomac River across the street. (In a previous life this wall featured the slightly cheeky “Ich Bin Ein Berliner” JFK mural for the now-defunct & sadly-missed The Berliner beer hall). Here’s to DC’s vibrant public murals scene! Long live great public art!

Take a peek inside the 45th Annual Capitol Hill Classic with us. A resounding success, setting a new record w/almost 4,800 registered to run around our Capitol Hill neighborhood, in support of the Capitol Hill Cluster School. We love sponsoring & volunteering at this beloved neighborhood tradition. And the Hill was a sea of hot pink race shirts for the rest of the day! Congratulations runners. See you next year!

Congrats to Dylan, Phil’s caddy of three years, for achieving his 100th loop & thereby becoming eligible for The Western Golf Association’s Evan’s scholar program. Started in 1930, these scholarships cover tuition plus room and board at a number of amazing schools. Phil notes that Dylan should also receive hazard pay for watching mediocre golf! Kudos to Dylan!!
