In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, thanks to a partnership with Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, Inc. and the library, more than 100 children in Rappahannock County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

We’re working to meet a growing need in our community — and we need your help.

An estimated 200 Rappahannock residents are living with some level of dementia. Too often, they and their caregivers face this journey in isolation, with little local support or respite options.

Rapp at Home is building a new solution: Rapp Respite — a social respite care program designed to offer companionship, engagement, and moments of joy for those living with dementia, while giving caregivers time to rest and recharge.

Help us reuse and recycle! Drop off your clean, dry grocery bags (paper or plastic) at the Pantry in the designated collection box in our atrium. Look for this sign!

Your bags will get another life here at the Pantry instead of heading to the trash. 💚 Thanks for helping us reduce waste!

Join us for DADventure Day 2026 at Verdun Adventure Bound for a FREE outdoor experience designed for youth ages 7-17 and the father figures in their lives.

Enjoy a day filled with outdoor activities, connection, and fun for dads, grandfathers, stepdads, foster dads, uncles, and other father figures.

Hosted by the five local Departments of Social Services and Encompass.
