I remember going to the library on base (JBER by back when it was Elmendorf and Ft Richardson), going through lots of reference books (encyclopedia included) and writing a report on Alaska glaciers. There were so many to choose from-that part was easy!

The fun parts? A field trip to a wonderland of books, knowledge and a treasure hunt all in one.

Then, my sister helping me find all the info, maps and intel to write the story. No iPhone, no Google, no AI, no copying from someone else’s paper. It was an event that took time, patience and real effort. Not just ‘hey Siri…’

Different times for sure!
