A Lesson Far Greater Than Whittling ❤️
Today was one of those moments that reminds me what life is really all about.
Larry, one of our incredible Maple Place residents, began teaching my 10 year old son, Landon, how to whittle. Before they even picked up a knife, Larry spent time teaching him something even more important than carving wood: safety, patience, and respect for the craft.
**Safety, safety, safety**
Larry carefully wrapped Landons thumb to protect against an accidental slip and also gave him a protective glove so he could hold the wood securely. He explained how to properly care for his tools and even gifted him a strop to keep his knives sharp because, a dull knife is no good. 😉
With the lessons underway, Landon's first project will be carving a snake. He could hardly contain his excitement ❤️ But what touched my heart most wasn't the whittling. It was watching the excitement in both of their eyes ❤️ One generation eager to learn. One generation eager to teach.
In a world that moves so fast, we sometimes forget how much wisdom, talent, and knowledge our older generations have to share. They carry decades of experience, stories, skills, and life lessons that can't be found on a screen. Our young people need those connections, and our seniors deserve to know that what they've learned throughout their lives still matters ❤️
Today wasn't just about carving wood.
It was about building a friendship, sharing knowledge, preserving a skill, and creating a memory that neither of them will forget. These moments are exactly why intergenerational relationships are so important. When generations come together, everyone benefits ❤️
Thank you, Larry, for investing your time, patience, and talent in a young boy who thinks you're pretty amazing. And thank you for reminding all of us that some of life's greatest lessons are passed from one generation to the next, one conversation at a time. ❤️. I cant wait to see the projects they complete this summer!!
