WAUKESHA COUNTY KICKS OFF NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH GOODWILL WITH ELECTRONICS AND APPLIANCE RECYCLING EVENT
(WAUKESHA, WI) – Waukesha County is kicking off a new partnership with Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin’s E-Cycle program with an electronics and appliance recycling event. The partnership will allow residents to recycle several items they were unable to conveniently drop off during previous events. The kickoff event will take place at the Goodwill Store and Donation Center, 1408 Summit Avenue, Oconomowoc, on Saturday, March 9, from 9 am until noon.
“This partnership with Goodwill runs the full gamut of opportunities for the community,” said Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow. “Not only will it be easier for residents to e-cycle, recycling with Goodwill supports activities that benefit the community, like training people for employment.”
The partnership allows for additional items to be collected. These newly accepted items include home goods, and pre-shredded paper (no fee) and paper for secure shredding ($5). Other items that will be continue to be collected include computers, laptops, flat screen computer monitors, scanners, DVD players, VCRs, stereos, cell phones, telephones, and appliances including air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, microwaves, watercoolers, freezers, water heaters, washer/dryers, stoves, ovens/ranges, and dishwashers (no fee). Television sets ($25 each) and Cathode Ray Tube computer monitors ($10 each) are collected for a fee which can be paid with Visa, Mastercard, or cash. No broken or de-manufactured television or computer units will be accepted. State law bans electronics and appliances from landfills and incinerators.
Through these special collection events, residents can easily ensure that these items are reused or recycled. Electronics and appliances can only be taken to Goodwill during special collection events. Collected items will also help Goodwill train and employ people with disabilities and disadvantages. Appliances are responsibly recycled by Refrigerant Depot, LLC.
This new partnership provides residents with six collection events annually. The remainder of the 2019 schedule is listed below.
These collection events are for household electronics and appliances only. Businesses are required by Wisconsin law to recycle and there are several options to contract for these services listed on our website, waukeshacounty.gov/recycling.
