It took until 1975 for the United Nations to recognize and begin celebrating International Women’s Day. It recognizes the acts of courage and resolve by ordinary women who have played an important role in the history of their countries and communities.
Being Eastern European by birth, I do have a strong connection to the holiday, as in 1917 Russian women marched in protest of poor wages and working conditions and this got them the right to vote. In Ukraine, where I grew up, it is a National Holiday.
Don't fret, there is also an International Men's Day that started being celebrated in 1990 but it isn't as well know.
Here's to the women who inspire, empower, and lead every day. Happy International Women's Day! Let's celebrate the achievements, resilience, and strength of women worldwide. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equal future. 💪🌟
