Faces of the Fort Friday: A closer look into the lives of community members.

"I’ve been at Fort Leonard Wood for five years. I did basic here, AIT, came back to be a drill sergeant and now as a chemical officer. At the two-year mark of my drill sergeant tour, I decided I wanted to make a transition. I thought back to my very first duty station, 385th MP Battalion at Fort Stewart. My battalion commander, who is now the assistant commandant of the MP School, (Col. Eugenia Guilmartin), walked out to the front of the formation, and I said ‘that’s what I want to do, I want to be the commander of troops’. Having been a chemical NCO, I have that as a baseline so I feel that it will make me a better chemical officer. I recently graduated OCS and now I’m back at Fort Leonard Wood, looking forward to going to Chem BOLC and starting my chemical officer adventure."

Faces of the Fort Friday: A closer look into the lives of community members.

"Something I hear a lot about the band; they say that we are the face of the Army. Like this weekend, we are doing a parade, and we're going to downtown St. Louis. And when people see us marching down the street in the parade they don't really think that’s the Army band. They think that’s the Army. They see the uniform and we look really sharp, look really good. It’s the presence and the character that we have. I think it’s really rewarding to be seen in the public eye as a good steward of the Army and the Army band. I think it is just awesome that we get to do outreach stuff like this, and in big cities like St. Louis. I think it’s really rewarding to be there in the community and reaching out by sharing music. I think we have such a valuable and rewarding job. And to get paid to play...I think it’s awesome."

: A closer look into the lives of community members.

"I was in sixth grade when I saw two Marines in the mall. I told my mom right then that I was going to be a Marine. The Marines were in their dress blues and I was struck by their uniforms. I knew I wanted to be like them. The Marine Corps doesn't really change you as a person so much as it brings out who you are as a person and builds upon it. I created my foundation back in high school and the Marine Corps built a house on top of it. It's all about making you a better citizen and giving back to the community. The Marine Corps birthday is coming up on Nov. 10. It's the same day as my birthday. As we come up to our 243rd birthday this week, it's about celebrating our legacy. It's about remembering the battles, what we have fought for and the sacrifices we have made for our country. We are able to keep moving forward by remembering our past."
