I woke up to the sound of my mumโs voice leaving a message on the old landline answering machine in the apartment, telling me not to panic, but that when I got up, I needed to turn on the television. I was on PST.
Needless to say, I raced down the hallway, and grabbed the phone. We spent the next two hours together, either side of the Atlantic, watching everything unfold in real time. I remember how striking it was to hear what was being televised in the UK compared with what we were seeing here in the US.
Eventually, I went to work, where we all sat together and watched as the events of that terrible day continued to unfold.
Iโll never forget it.
September 11th was a pivotal moment in US history โ one that should never be forgotten, and one from which we should all continue to learn.
RIP to all those who lost their lives, and to the incredible first responders and ordinary citizens who, without hesitation and with no thought for their own safety, barely comprehending what was going on, threw themselves headlong into helping and saving whoever they could.
