Our Healthcare System is in Crisis

We are facing multiple crises, beyond just the housing shortage. The healthcare system needs urgent attention. If you haven’t experienced a loved one needing hospital or medical care recently, consider yourself fortunate—but brace yourself if home care is required unless you’re paying out of pocket.

For years, I’ve navigated this broken system, caring for my parents, mother-in-law, and now my brother, and it’s only gotten worse. The level of neglect is shocking.

Today, my brother was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. By noon, tests were done, and a plan was in place to start meds. Yet, when I left at 7 PM, no meds had been administered. He’s diabetic, but they didn’t offer food or drink all day—not even an IV. Around 6:30 I fed him myself because there wasn’t enough staff to assist him. The doctor had to help him use the bathroom. And it took hours just to get him a pillow—after being told there’s a pillow shortage!

What would have happened if we hadn’t been there? The thought haunts me. This situation isn’t sustainable. I fear what lies ahead over the next 4-8 years. I worry deeply for my grandchildren—they deserve better.

America has a long road to recovery, and I’m scared it won’t happen in my lifetime. We need change—and we need it now.
