Buying land and buying a home may both involve a lender, but the financing can look very different.

Land loans are often considered higher risk because there may be no finished home securing the loan. Depending on whether you're purchasing raw land, improved acreage, or property you plan to build on, lenders may require a larger down payment, shorter loan term, or different financing structure.

Before shopping for land:
โœ” Talk with lenders experienced in rural property
โœ” Ask about down payment requirements
โœ” Compare interest rates and loan terms
โœ” Explain how you intend to use the property

A common mistake is getting pre-approved for a traditional home mortgage and assuming the same financing will work for acreage.
