Saying “No” and needing to remind myself that I do not have to give an explanation. You see… when you are a helper or a people pleaser … it’s incredibly hard to stop feeling obligated to go to the “mixer” or “lead the group” because your colleague or boss needs your skills. When you are a “fixer,” you tend to jump in to fix anything that you see needs tending, often working for free, or exhausting yourself. Overextending yourself is common. Feeling quietly resentful is a feeling you carry around and push down. When money doesn’t motivate you… all the “helping” is even offered for free. Learning to say “No” when you are a “yes man” is hard, but it is so good for your soul and body to feel like you have “choice again.”
What do you say “yes” to, that you shouldn’t?
